Liverpool, Nova Scotia Zion United Church 1959 First Edition Paperbound Very Good 8 Vo., 
spiral bound, pist wraps, 166 pages, illustrated, double page map, numerous half-tone illustrations, a clean, bright copy. A most interesting production with a mixture of local history and fine old recepies, published on the occasion of Liverpool, Nova Scotia's bicentennial year, 1759-1959, by the Zion Guild of Zion United Church, Liverpool. Simeon Perkins came to Nova Scotia from Norwich, Connecticut in 1762. He opened a store and later entered the lumber and shipbuilding business. He owned and operated many ships and had much to do with the privateers who sailed out of Liverpool to attack the commerce of His Majesty's enemies from Cape Cod to the Spanish Main, His house is still standing in Liverpool. There is a short bio of Perkin's by Canadian writer Thomas H. Raddall. The illustrations include historical artifacts, ships, buildings, etc. Many of the recipes where brought from the New England area by the early pioneeers.

Fay Burg (1916-2010) and her husband, Ralph owned the Quisisana Resort, on Lake Kezar in Lowell. Maine from 1948-1976. The resort, which is still in operation, was built by Kate A. Strauss, wife of a wealthy New York corset manufacturer. Edna Hibel is best know for her Mother and Child series of paintings and has earned an international reputation as an artist of exceptional talent. She is represented in various museums and galleries around the world.This book is a manifestation of a long time friendship between Fay Burg and Edna Hibel and the collection of recipes comes from Burg's 30 years of working with the European chefs at the Quisisana Resort. The volume contains classics such as brioche, hazelnut torte, oss bucco, and matzo balls,and regional recipes like Cold Peach Soup with Blueberry Garnish, New England Clam Chowder, Country Apple pie and Blueberry Pancakes. Quisisana is a music lake resort in Lovell, Maine, and offers a unique vacation experience. The staff each summer is made up of talented performers from the New England Conservatory of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, Tisch School of the Arts (NYU), and other fine schools.
