His most lasting contribution came in the form of the Atlantic Neptune, one of the landmark of cartography. This biography is based on author's thesis--Yale University.

circa 1851, gilt dec. red cloth, gilt spine, pp.,(1),362-568 , illustrated, steel -engraved frontis. ( Captain Cook), (Sir Joseph Banks),(William Pitt), 3 double-page Tallis maps, (Eastern Hemisphere) (Australia),(New South wales), all map have coastlines outlined in color, and have various vignettes in the margins, relief is shown by hachures, "Comprising the Discovery, Maritime Surveys, Coast Line,Interior Exploration, Winds, Climate, and Geology, Population Statistics, Recent Gold Discoevries,Wool Produced in New South Wales, Wages, etc, etc, A wealth of Statistics on the Colony." maps, plates are starting, covers show moderate soil, all maps are clean impressions, free from foxing. The author was a traveler, naval surgeon, and colonial official. His service was chiefly in the Far East, but his interest in the Empire as a whole led him to study the resources of the several colonies,and commercail and statistical works of some merit appeared as a result of his activities. He was the founder of the Colonial Magazine in 1840 and served as its editor for two years. He did not visit the West Indies until 1851, when official business took him to Jamaica. Size: 4 to.,
