pict. paper wraps,256 p.,illustrated, 8 pp bibliography, index, Brown began in B.C. in 1862 during the Cariboo gold rush and two years later he participated in another rush to Wild Horse Creek where he also became a B.C. Provincial Policeman,...a year later he was on the prairie where his party was attacked by Blackfoot Indians...Brown was wounded by an arrow..he then headed south and became a Pony Express rider..a U.S. Army dispatch rider and was captured by Sitting Bull. While the indians were trying to decide how to torture the they escaped. Later, after returnig to Canada he served with the Rocky Mountain Rangers during the 1885 Riel Rebellion. After settling in the Waterton Lake district he began a campaign to protect the area's wilderness and wildlife.
