green cloth, gilt spine, ix, 209 pages, 12 full page b & w plates,top of spine worn, signed in ink on the half title by Veness, Fairweather and Will Bird, first edit., first printing,,(Sept. 54'), 3 line ink inscription of former owner on front free endpaper,,Veness and Fairweather enlisted at near the same time and met in England. Both were sent as lieutenants to the North Nova Scotia Highlanders. On D Day both were taken prisoner, escaped to fight with the French Underground...the rest makes for thrilling reading. Both were fine, modest men, who are now gone.
